What Photography Means to Me
Photography has always been a huge part of my life. Ever since I was young and was being shown old pictures of my relatives and used images to learn about their legacy and importance in my family. My house has always had many framed photos of my family and we even have a large picture wall in my house used to display some of our favorite memories.
Photography isn't just something I use to learn about the past, it is something I use to improve. I was a gymnast for 14 years of my life and I always felt like I could be getting better. Whenever there were certain skills that I struggled to improve on, I would bring my phone out and have my teammates or coach record or take photos of my routine so that I was able to go back and watch and look for my mistakes. This was something I did almost every week at practice and it was a huge part of why I was usually very successful at competitions.Lastly, photography is something I really enjoy doing as a hobby. I love to travel and hike and one of my favorite things to do is to bring my camera and document my expierience. I started taking photos for fun for as long as I can remember. When I was around eight years old, I would borrow my moms camera and go outside in my yard and find things I wanted to capture. I not only enjoy documenting nature, I love to use photography as a way to capture my favorite memories I make with my friends and family.
I really enjoyed the part in the article "Photography Changes Everything" that they got from the magazine "Life" that says, "to see life, to see the world, to eyewitness great events...". This sentence really encompasses my feeling towards photography and what it means to me because, to me, photography is the beautiful art used to capture moments in time, weather they are good or bad, and use those images for learning, referencing, entertaining, and fulfillment.
