Nikos Economopoulos
Nikos Economopoulos is a very interesting photographer. He portrays a very free spirited feeling when looking at his work. He captures moments in time perfectly and really shows the fun in the simple moments of life. A quote by Economopoulos that I believe really encompasses his work is, "Being on the road, traveling without a predetermined purpose, looking around me with visual curiosity and being surprised by what I encounter. While shooting, somehow, thinking is suspended. It is like playing a game with reality". This quote also is a great way to word why I personally love photography. He makes it fun and that's what I hope to do when I get the chance to travel and document it all through photography.
The first picture is very messy and chaotic. It looks like children playing in a bunch of newspapers. When I look at this picture I wonder how this moment came to be. But I love the movement that is captured in the hands of each of the subjects as well as some of the papers. The shape that each of the subjects are making with their arms is also very pleasing to the eye because its almost the exact same but on opposite sides. The crowd of people in the back add to the story as well. To me I see two people feeling free and careless of the judgment from others and are living in the moment and making fun out of something rather boring.
The second picture brings me so much joy. I love music and seeing moments like this captured in photography is something I really enjoy. The subject of this picture also seems as though he could care less about the others judgement and keeps playing his music. It looks as though the people in the back are intrigued by the man in the front. To me this shows the beauty and freedom that comes with the sound and entertainment of music. The symmetry of the window frame and the trumpet is a great touch to the composition of this image.
